Contemporary Learning Techniques for Science teachers shared in a workshop hosted by Royal Society of Chemistry, UK in Thottuva
Kuravilngad:“Active Learning Workshop for Science Educators” was conducted in PoornodayaVidyanikethan on Saturday,16th September 2017, as a part of the prestigious projects of Royal Society of Chemistry, United Kingdom which aims to improve the quality of chemistry/ science teaching in India.
“We never knew that there are actually such fun methods to teach complex topics to students which make them easier to understand and learn” quoted a teacher from a reputed college who attended the workshop.
Tarsia, card sorting, dominoes loop were some of the many teaching techniques tried on by teachers and budding teachers at the workshop.
It was the first of its kind that such an lively session was conducted in Thottuva for teachers .The significance of Constructive Learning methods were highlighted and discussed with the teachers and students from Deva Matha College, Mount Carmel College and other schools in Kottayam.
“Every student should be given the opportunity to discover the world of science on his or her own. We, teachers just have to give them the environment and become facilitators rather than drill the topics into their heads.” remarked StalinaBhai S, the resource teacher developer from Yusuf Hamied Inspirational Chemistry Programme who had conducted the workshop with the advanced teaching aids, supportive resource materials and recognized science journals from Royal Society of Chemistry, United Kingdom, .
The participants were keenly engaged in making lesson plans and sharing the challenges they are facing in their career as a science teacher in the sessions post lunch provided by the school.
