Kurvilngad: As a part of the Healthy Kuravilngad project, a budding initiative of Friends of Poornodaya, an exclusive Zumba fitness session was piloted on Saturday, 14th October 2017 in the lush green PoornodayaVidyanikethan campus.
October 2017 being the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month focuses to improve the health and fitness of ladies of all ages from teenage to old age. Obesity being common in all ages, Zumba fitness has been proved to be a great activity which takes the “work” out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party for an affordable price.
“This is indeed a great way to help us build strength, improve motion and posture, and socialise and such programs should be organised often to bring fitness awareness among females. Appreciate the effort taken by Poornodaya.” remarked Mercy Reji , the Kurvilangad Panchayat Vice President who attended the session.
“I had never expected the ladies in such a small town like Thottuva to be so energetic and enthusiastic to work out. During this 45 minute session I had combined all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesomeness injected in every participant.” quoted Aruna J , the international licensed Zumba and Aqua Zumba Trainer who directed the lively session with a great deal of zeal and vigour.
“I just did Zumba for the first time and it was SO much fun! A great stress reliever too. I can’t dance so I was nervous, but it was easier than I thought. I look forward to join it. The same goes for my daughter as well!” said Neethu a resident of Thottuva who had come with her 8 year old daughter.
“It is not (only) about physical transformation. The workout actually makes you smile. It’s a great emotional boost to one’s day and any weight loss is an added bonus.” remarked Maya Mary Ittan, Principal of PoornodayaVidyanikethan.”Aruna brings high energy to everything she does. It was a pleasure to have her to train us and we are willing in making Zumba a lifestyle for an all women and children if they can join hands for it. We would love to promote and encourage similar healthy habits envisioning a disease free Kurvilngad.”she added.
