As a volunteer at Poornodaya Vidyanikethan, a school with an alternative holistic approach, you often get the opportunity to do many different tasks. One of the ideas of Poornodaya to raise awareness about the importance of health and wellbeing among children, teachers and in society, is through sports and physical movement. At the beginning of November, I was asked to give a dance workshop, because I once told that I have had Jazz dance lessons before.
I first thought that it will be really boring for everyone and that I am not able to teach someone what I have learned. I couldn’t imagine that people could learn something about dancing from me, besides that dancing should always be fun.
However at the end it was really fun and a total success – everyone enjoyed it and we could even start a choreography. This will not be the last dance lesson I will give at Poornodaya too. The next project according to Jazz dance will be, to integrate one lesson per week into the curriculum for the first standard. I am grateful for having the opportunity of doing things I would probably never do somewhere else and with that, also learning new things about myself.
