Before I came to Poornodaya Vidyanikethan, to work here as a volunteer for six months, I certainly looked at the website and there I already read that the learning experience goes beyond the walls of a classroom. That a high importance is placed on nature and there will be field trips. That was one of those things which sounded very interesting to me and made me to want to come here even more. Therefore, I was happy to accompany the children during the field trip on November 16.
As part of Poornodaya’s aim to connect children with nature, we went on a excursion to the J-Yes Farm. Where the children could experience farm animals, like rabbits, ducks, varieties of chicken, cows etc. as well as fishes, water turtles and ostrichs in beautifully green surroundings. They could see different plants and spices, besides small backwaters with fish farming. However the highlight for many kids was the playground, placed between palm trees and near the water.
It was a day enjoyed and full of outside learning opportunities.
One quote I read once, said approximately the following:
“If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, then let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it.“ In my opinion, that is very true, because before you develop the goal to save something, you have to like or love it first. With this field trip, I believe we could bring the children an interest and love for nature, again a little closer.
