The keynote address was delivered by Mrs. Saritha Iyer. In her message she stressed the importance of a mutually complementary triangular relationship between a child, his/her parents and teachers for an effective education on values. She said that, often the modern parent puts pressure on a child to become a “greatly successful person” and heavily deemphasises the aspect of being a “good person” who lives in integrity with his “good values”. She presented instances from her personal experience as a teacher, wherein she witnessed grown up college students who are in the dark due to a lack of education on values. She argued that, this lack of integrity among the grown up youth could be traced back to their younger years when they were parented without a wise balance between being pampering and being firm & strict. By referring to her parenting experience, she said that, teaching a child to obey certain norms and rules will only make them disciplined; however teaching them the spirit of the rules and norms makes them truly wise.
The cultural events began after the Keynote address. The first performance was a drama “Heal the Earth” directed by PV’s international faculty Ms. Melanie Bianchi. The drama was performed by the students and teachers of PV. The drama highlighted the plight of the Earth due to plastic pollution and exhorted the audience to change the habits which contribute to environmental harm.
Mr. David Hashemi, one of PV’s international faculty enthralled the audience with his fire-spinning skills. Further, the students of PV displayed a yoga performance. Afterwards, certificates of proficiency in skills and values were distributed to the students. The cultural events concluded with a lively South American style Dance performed by Ms. Melanie Bianchi and the teachers. In the end, the vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Manu Sen Malieckan the program coordinator.
