Kuravilangad: The morning of 11th September, 2018 was a time of pleasant surprise for the little ones of Poornodaya Vidyanikethan. They were overjoyed to see the new rides in the outdoor play area. It was a time of free play among the kids who would get into the various swings, slide and other rides according to their tastes. “These big toys in the play area are completely fashioned in recycled scrap metals and tyres in line with Poornodaya’s commitment towards the environment.” pointed out Mr. Anish K Joy, the director of the school.
The newly appointed foreign volunteer staff Ms. Zoë Bader from Germany also joined the mentors in guiding the children’s play. “They enjoy the rides so much that that they do not want to get inside the building for the next activity!” exclaimed Mrs.Sini the UKG mentor. Little John would gesture the mentors to push his swing “over and over again, faster and faster”. “Every kid is waiting patiently for their turn to get on to the slide in a self-organized way without requiring any directions from the mentors. It is self-evident that the natural instinct for movement and self-regulation is elicited among the children during the spontaneous play” remarked another Poornodaya mentor.
“Movement and play is an essential part of Poornodaya Vidyanikethan’s Holistic curriculum. The domains of educational objectives in the curriculum of Poornodaya involve equal emphasis on Physical, Linguistic, Aesthetic, Discovery, Numeracy/Cognitive and Life skills development of the child. Under the physical development domain, the school envisages to provide children with ample opportunities for developing their gross motor and fine motor skills. The amusement rides are designed to cater to the needs of gross motor development among the children.”, explained Ms. Maya Mary Ittan, the Principal of Poornodaya Vidyanikethan.
